Cloth diaper day 3 was laundry day. Not that I had a lot of laundry to do, one MINI load, for some reason I ran completely out of time to blog. Day 3 went well. Uneventful, no blowouts, no leaks. So far it's great. Laundry was pretty simple. I started with a cold wash with detergent, let it soak for 20min first then a complete wash cycle. Then I did a hot water wash cycle with detergent and an additional rinse. Done in less than an hour because the load was so small, only about 8 diapers. All the yellow, breastmilk poo came out without a problem. No odors no stains, not too shabby. I was kind of bummed though because I was really excited about using my clothes line, I know easily amused these days, but it was raining so I had to use the dryer. It only took one cycle to dry the diapers completely. I threw my "wet" bag (which is actually not wet at all, just waterproof) into the wash with the diapers. It is bright purple and I was afraid it would bleed with the hot wash but it didn't. So all in all, wash was not too bad. I got much better at wrapping the cloth diapers and using the snappi.
Day 4--I used my new Kissaluvs fitted diapers. They are great! No folding necessary, I love it. I just wish I could afford more, at 15 bucks a pop they are pretty pricey. So I will stick with the three I got off ebay and use the prefolds primarily. I plan on using the Kissaluvs when I go out since they are quicker and I only have 3 of them.
Day 5--hmmm. Do I remember Day 5? Yes, day 5 went smooth, no major bumps. I got in the mail Jackson's cloth diapers. I went ahead and ordered one size pocket diapers for him instead of the prefolds. In essence it is a cloth diaper just like a disposable. You stuff it with the absorbant pad or pads and wrap it up, quick and simple. I got 5 to try, 2 Bumgenius, 3 Happy Heiny, and one FuzziBunz. They are also one size so I can adjust them on Addison as well. So once Jackson is potty trained I have them for her. Again, I wish I could afford more but they are 18-20 each so I will stick with the 5 and maybe get more for Christmas and the kids' birthdays ( I know what you are thinking--exciting gifts, I know but to me it will be ;) ).
Day 6--I spent day 6 washing the new cloth diapers. No hiccups with cloth on Addison.
Day 7--I put Jackson in his new cloth today. He loved it, it has monkeys on it. I am anxious to see how well it absorbs. He is a heavy wetter and I put it on him right before nap (after he pooed, since i don't want to clean that up just yet :) ). I'll let you know. Also, Addison wore a disposable to church and after church she had a major blowout, out the sides and on her dress. 6 Days of cloth and not one blowout, one disposable and a blowout--go figure! And I don't even know how to fold them good yet, so I guess I am VERY happy with cloth. Today is laundry day again. It's sunny so I sent John to the store to get me clothes pins. I am so excited to use my clothes line. (I feel like Laura Ingalls Wilder, doing my laundry and hanging it on the line. hehe)

Are you asking??...
Is it messy? Nope. Addison just has breastmilk poo so it doesn't stink at all. I'll let you know how it is with Jackson in cloth as I am more apprehensive about cleaning his cloth diapers. But I am excited about the money I am/will save.
Cloth wipes? Yup. I just wet them with warm, or cool if its hot outside, water and clean her up. I have 12, may 15, cloth flannel wipes. They are super cute! I love all the prettiness that cloth diapering affords. It's the little things in life right! :)
Odor? None. I use a dry bag, just like a laundry bag for the dirty diapers and I have washed every other day. Again I have yet to put Jackson's in there so we'll see on Tuesday after there are 6 of his dirty diapers in there. But again, my bag is purple so it makes me smile as I walk by. I know, I know, I am easily amused!
Well I think that is all for now. I am in the process of setting up a diapering station downstairs by my laundry area so that it is that much easier for changing diapers. I plan on getting a changing table pad and putting it on the dryer and using that as my table that way all my supplies are there and I can just drop the dirty diaper into the bag and be done. No more disposable diapers all over the house--yes I admit, I am terrible about getting the dirty diapers to the trash right away...embarrassing I know.
So there you have it--a rookies first week at cloth. I am really enjoying it. If you have any tips I'd love to hear them. And if you know where to get cheaper diapers I'm totally up for that too.

Super impressive! Love the pics. :)
very cool Kandy!! I am way inspired! Thanks for the post. Your love is extravagant!!
you can save loads and make your own!
Cloth diapers! I am going to try them out myself when the time comes. I have another friend who swears by them to. She had blow outs with the dispoable ones, none with the cloth ones. So she totally converted and me (and I don't even have a child of my own yet!) You're just confirming it even more!
Have you heard of gro baby diapers yet? They are my favs! In the long run, they are cheaper than bum genius because you don't have to wash the cover every time, but more convenient than pins or the snappi. Also, there is a recipe for a cloth wipes solution that is even cheaper than buying and not hard to make at all. Check my blog as I will post the recipe there as a few people have asked for it. If you've seen those diaper sprayers online for cleaning out icky diapers, you'll see they cost $50 or so. Here's a much cheaper version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zpfj_SeG4ro It works wonders and saves on time and clean up mess.
