I found this blog that has a super fun idea for little one's and Holy Week. It's called (our family for his glory). I have always wanted to do something special with Holy Week in preparation for black Friday and EASTER for our kids, but I haven't been prepared enough. But the mamma author of this blog has 6 kids and they are little so the crafts are SHORT and doable! I love it!
Palm Sunday...we made "palm" branches (I am NOT crafty, but the kids didn't care) and reenacted Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. They rode Daddy as the donkey after putting a blanket on him, and blankets all over the living room. Then we shouted "Hosanna, Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" It was super fun. We listened to the Bible using the Kidz Audio Bible . The kids really enjoyed it. The blog has great instructions for reading, activity etc. My Favorite part is that each day you add something to your Family Easter Basket and at the end of the week there is a great surprise waiting in the Easter Basket. I am SUPER excited! I don't have any pics of our reenactment but here is one of our Easter Basket with our palm branches in it. We explained to the kids what Hosanna means, and how Jesus came to as our salvation from our sins! It was fun! :)
Day 2 is Titled "Anointed with the Heart"
We read about the sinful woman anointing washing Jesus feet with her tears and expensive perfume. The take away point for today is that Jesus looks at our heart. The pharisees were so angry that the perfume was used and that such a sinful woman was in their midst. But Jesus saw her heart and forgave her sins. We talked about how we are just like both the important leaders and the sinful woman, sinners on the outside and the inside and Jesus wants to clean our hearts. Jesus doesn't care how good we look He wants us to love Him.
The craft for today was decoupaged tea light vases so that the Light of Jesus can shine through us. That Jesus is the Light of the World and He looks at our hearts and it's HIS goodness/light that shines in us once we accept Him as our Saviour, not our own goodness. Again, an easy craft, Addison & I made Kelson's, he wasn't interested :) but last night he did wave his palm branches and shout Hosanna! :)
The blog suggests putting in an egg with some money in it to give to God. I have yet to get the plastic Easter eggs. I think when John gets home as a family we will set aside some money and use it to spend on God's work. And add the money rolled up and tied with a bow into our basket.
I am super excited about this week, maybe I need these lessons more than the kids! I pray they learn something, mostly about how much they are loved by Jesus and His great sacrifice! I don't want Sunday to be all about candy, bunnies and peeps (although we all know I can't resist an old school yellow peep :) ) But we can't do the celebration of Sunday without first walking with Jesus to the Cross.
